aside from bacon, nutella, cake, and bubble tea, we also have macarons as one of the basic food groups… hahaha! nah, those are my favorites narrowed down to five, so when maki wanted to have another food adventure, i suggested we go to mrs. graham’s macaron cafe.

the people manning the shop were too nice and they smiled while i ogled the pretty mugs and jars and glassware, i ordered butterbeer and let them choose the macarons… got one for free, huzzah! the butterbeer was the sweetest thing i had ever tasted, i thought i didn’t have a threshold for sugar level but this drink was just too sweet for me.

anyhoo, the macarons i got, in the first pixxor, were the fault in our stars bittersweet and hazelnut,  salted caramel, inside out smores,  mint chocolate, pancake with maple buttercream, and baileys! the second pixxor’s is maki’s set. i think those included bibingka with buttercream and salted egg, cookie dough, tequila rose, and white coffee… not sure about the rest though.

macaron soaps in the restroom! i’m not big on bar soaps, having used liquid soaps for years, but i wouldn’t mind having macaron soaps, so cute!

IMG_2538

after you’re done stuffing yourself with macarons, you can buy some trinkets and other fun stuff too! i bought an mt washi tape for half price! so eun, had a great time at mrs. graham’s… all those noms and cute stuff plus a really great place to egg your bestfriend about your life plans, lol. will definitely come back!

decided to finally see the mind museum some weeks back… it initially had so so reviews so i thought it’d be better to wait it out a bit then my bestfriend went and posted pixxors and that made me want to go too, heehee. got the ticket at a discounted price din, huzzah!

IMG_2441

the museum has a beehive honeycomb theme thing going on… the signs are all in hexagons! i liked the one in the pixxor a lot, reminds me of solo adventures.

of course they’d have chemistry stuff with atoms, elements, and a giant melting chocolate bar… you know, the usual stuff.

outerspace! the spacesuit’s pretty cool and i happened to catch venus on the lookout. i hope they update this part of the museum though, there’s new stuff from the voyager missions… used to read about those, found them most interesting.

IMG_2463
IMG_2465

aside from space, i also got to travel back in time with some fossils. archaelogy was the second thing i liked reading about after space explorations when i was younger and the interwebs was still on dial up, lol. anyhoo, it was at that part of the museum where i met…

IMG_2460

my new friend, stan the t-rex… he really needs a hug. he’s big on charming the ladies though, there were many girls lining up to take a selfie with him.

there were many other science stuff around like a salad mix of anatomy, physics, and biology, which was my least favorite subject back in school, lol. they made us stab frogs, ugh. although the biology stuff at the mind museum were not as gross. after a few more rounds and reading, i went to the second floor…

this part of the museum contains things that we do, our expressions, inventions, even aesthetics.

some food for your thoughts? the second floor also has the mind cafe, where science quotes are displayed on the walls for us to mull over…

IMG_2506
IMG_2507

however if you do get hungry, there’s always kyle’s lab with museum themed food. i had pesto dinosaurs and strawberry iced tea with popping spheres, very creative names, yes? also, they tasted good.

after eating, i headed to the mind museum store to buy some souvenirs, there were lots to choose from like seed bombs, miniature animals… the cats were adorable, rocket ship tumblers, and books. i ended up with a shirt though, because the design was really nice.

after lunch, we headed to lucban, the bus was parked a few kilometers from the town proper, we could have easily walked but we didn’t want to suffer heatstroke so we decided to ride a tricycle, luckily, we found a nice driver who didn’t ask for too much fare and then we had to walk from the mouth of the town since it was so packed with people already. they put streamers by that area, thought they were pretty.

IMG_2357

speaking of the heat, we arrived at lucban at midday when the sun was trying to fry us all off so i bought a large and sturdy floppy straw hat because i was having difficulty taking pixxors while holding an umbrella, it shaded my whole face. its patterns looked seamless too, this was such a bargain at less than two hundred pesos, the ones at the mall sell for around eight hundred.

IMG_2373
IMG_2377
IMG_2376

there were so many contests that showcase lucban’s specialties and produce, they even made food carts, if only the stalls in metro manila could be this creative… anyhoo, after several blocks of searching we found the streets where the houses were decorated for timpalak pahiyas.

most houses had colorful kiping chandeliers. they’re so pretty and they instantly brighten up even the unpainted houses. on a side note, kiping is made of rice and can last for months. people fry or grill them, i tried some and they’re like unflavored popcorn with the texture of corn chips.

lots of houses had a combination of both flowers and chandeliers, almost completely covering their verandas and walls… and some even have sponsors!

there were many other things aside from kiping that were used as decoration, i found the cutest carabao covered in produce, they had fruit and vegetable insects, and yes, paper decorations of course.

along the streets were fun and cheap goods, i kept stopping for five peso drinks from aunties who were fussing over the pancit habhab and fruit juices. one house was selling yakult and had a large yakult mascot, hahaha! there were native products like bags and baskets, i even found a mirror, heehee! there were lots of toys, the jumping frogs and mermaid dolls were interesting. they also sold plants, like succulents and orchids.

GEDC1243

my most important purchase from this trip though was two dozen longganisang lucban, half was for my sister and the other half was for pasalubong… but after i gave my sister’s share, i ate the other half in two sittings. it’s that good!

GEDC1225

p.s. i found a maneki neko at one of the streets… and you know what, i had a pretty lucky day!

late post is late, been having erratic sleep these past weeks. anyhoo, i put on my old reliable pair of chucks and went to lucban, quezon last may 15 for this year’s pahiyas festival. on a side note, noticed that they have dark soil in quezon, which means it is highly organic…

IMG_2353

before we went to lucban though, we had an early lunch at palaisdaan sa tayabas, in of course, tayabas, quezon. the place smells like the sea and salt and earth.

IMG_2334

ate mai and me 2ate mai and me1

it is essentially a restaurant where people eat on floating bamboo rafts fitted with little huts. ate mai and i camwhored around those, lol. was lucky she joined this trip, met her a few months ago from my baguio trip, she can tolerate me being childish and she likes pink a lot, and we have the same name… that means she’s a really good person, hehe.

IMG_2308
IMG_2310

fish! it’s not palaisdaan or fishery without the fish. i eat fish but i’m not that fond of them except maybe for tuyo and daing na bangus, felt a little sad because they’re swimming happily over there but i knew we were having a few of them for lunch…

IMG_2331
IMG_2295
IMG_2336

the lobby is beachy with shell decors and wooden chairs. lots of fish design too. and best of all, the area has free wifi! huzzah!

IMG_2322
IMG_2323
IMG_2321
IMG_2317

they have several rooms where guests can stay. the hotel building looks like an old provincial house complete with capiz windows. peeked into one of the rooms, hehe, it looks cozy inside…

palaisdaan is one big garden too, and they have pretty earthen jars, i lost count after i saw the fish shaped one, it looked cute.

IMG_2337

we camwhored further at the reception area just up the lobby, this is where they’ll be serving our food, but while waiting… took a photo of my travelfactor id, background of the palm roof works well. they also have a giant chandelier made of the same materials.

finally, after all that roaming around and pixxor taking, lunch is served! we had sat in the center table just beside the buffet table because… we can grab food fast, hehe! we gorged ourselves with rice, vegetables, grilled pork, and sinugno, which is grilled tilapia or milkfish which is also afterwards cooked in coconut milk and vegetables! chugged sprite too! i did a search on their menu when i got home, turns out they had steamed eggplants with bagoong and ginataang suso with pako… and i love those, man, must come back!
